Training Division of the Formwork Industry Association

 The industry needs to build better skills and capabilities to raise standards of compliance and safety and for cultural change to occur.

As an industry association responding to our members needs, we want to provide our members with access to high quality, job specific training, focused on competency and safety and enable our members to comply with WHS Act and laws.

Over the past year the FIA, formwork and construction industries have got together to formulate a new 'Formwork Education and Skills Pathway to improve safety in the Australian formwork industry'

This pathway will take the re-engaged formworker from the 'Safe Formworker Program' to certified training and the new Certificate III in Formwork, currently being discussed by the FIA with Federal Government training bodies. The goal is to develop a ‘fit for purpose’ formwork qualification in preparation for the large number of government infrastructure projects in the pipeline.

The recently released 'Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033' states that companies need to make sure that, on their projects, there is 'meaningful and relevant training for workers delivered in a way they can understand'.

It supports the continuation and strong focus on compliance and enforcement by regulators, with a particular focus on systematic work health and safety (WHS) management. If you don’t have meaningful and relevant training and cannot demonstrate robust WHS management, the risk is that the safety regulators will investigate the quality of your systems, including training and competency, to hold companies and individuals accountable.

WHS laws are risk based and don’t need an incident to occur for a business and its individuals to be liable. It is every employer’s responsibility to make sure their workers get the training, instruction and support they need to keep them safe at work.

We have conducted various research and listened to our members to put together a list of specific courses available through a variety of RTOs. Many of these courses will be available to members at a reduced rate or funded FREE.

 there is a need to re-engage workers in meaningful learning and assist them to develop confidence and an appetite for further training to develop their skills and ultimately their careers.

Remember to login to access these courses at the discounted rate.

If you are working with another RTO and would like to recommend them to the FIA please contact us and we will conduct our due diligence to see if they are suitable for our program.

Over the coming weeks we will be populating this new part of our site with information on courses available in the industry.

Education and Training Notice.
Our members are experiencing many challenges to their businesses and the Formwork industry. Many changes and more challenges are yet to come with the increase in legislation, legislative cases, financial challenges in a COVID-19 and post COVID-19 economy and with changes to the education of formworkers and access to training. The FIA is here as your industry association to represent you and to advocate for change - change for the better that benefits you.
Our current advocacy work is focused on improvements to formwork training and education and access to free and subsidised training.
Together We Are Stronger.

This page is in development and the FIA will be updating the content soon to bring you access to training courses where you can save money and recoup the cost of your membership.
